The Miata’s 11.9-gallon tank will carry you about 150 miles with some restraint, but good luck with that. Either engine will have no problem punting the Miata’s 2696 pounds through time and
Depends on the diff but 250whp is normally the safe absolute max for a 1.6. SunshineInDetroit • 1 yr. ago. I've heard 300 or so with a turbo and lots of internal upgrades. Honestly would be cheaper to do an ls swap. Ridethepig81 • 1 yr. ago. 1 more pound of boost fam. na_gooyin '90 Classic Red • 1 yr. ago.

Hoever, most do not recommend over 100-110psi of fuel at the rail in boost. *At this point it's time to think about larger injectors that can handle higher HP ratings at 100psi of fuel in the rail. The stock ecu can handle a -+ 20-30% injector. So the fueling with the stock ecu can only go so far.

How much hp can a NC Miata handle? The updated engine found in the later model NC Miatas, NC2s, are capable of handling a little more boost and are therefore a little more power. It's fairly easy to break 300hp with a 1.8L with head and aftermarket changes. The 1.6L has flow/breathing issues that come into play with the head design, and generally has a harder time getting over 250hp without significant work. The 1.6L is revvier than the 1.8, though, due to rotating mass differentials.
The closest thing I have driven to a Miata is a Honda S2000, Chevrolet Corvette (C5) surprisingly, Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S, Fiat 124 Spider (because it is a Miata with a shitty engine) and Lotus Elise. I'd recommend a 2018 Ford Taurus base.
