🎣 Good Books For 4Th Graders
Here are 12 books recommended as “must reads” by other advanced 4th & 5th grade readers on Bookopolis.com, an online community for young readers. These stories are engaging, thought provoking, and encourage young readers to learn more about the world — in an age appropriate way. Plus, they are great reads for adults, too.
Beezus and Ramona. Beezus and Ramona is another excellent book for children in 4th grade. It is one of the oldest (published in 1955) children’s novels written by Beverly Cleary. This award-winning novel delivers a fun-filled portrayal of the ups and downs of sisterhood.
Keep kids engaged with these good 4th and 5th graders mystery books. In each of the following titles, children will be challenged to solve the mystery. Also popular: Chet Gecko, a wisecracking fourth-grade detective (think Sam Spade) who along with his mockingbird sidekick, solve schoolyard mysteries. Kid detectives are very popular, from Encyclopedia Brown, where readers solve each mystery alongside the protagonist, to Cam Jansen, who uses her photographic memory to solve neighborhood mysteries.

Four Feet Two Sandals by Karen Lynn Williams. Find me on Amazon! Keeping with the refugee theme, this is another one of my favorite read aloud books for 4th grade. When relief workers bring used clothing to the refugee camp, everyone scrambles to grab whatever they can.
In the first book of the series, she gets spelling words and spells mixed up. Zita the Spacegirl by Ben Hatke One of our favorite graphic novels, Zita the Spacegirl is a true friend who not only saves her best friend from aliens but the galaxy as well! Middle-Grade Books (Ages 9 – 12)
It allows you to teach new vocabulary, and relate experiences from the story to the student’s own life. You can ask questions during dialogic reading, including c ompletion, r ecall, o pen-ended, “ w h” questions, and d istancing. Don’t forget- literal and inferential questions are super important to target in therapy.
22. Rise of the School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. This fantasy fairy tale is a perfect book for 6th graders who love anime or fantasy, or are just looking for something different. Deep in the endless woods, two brothers, one good and one evil, started a school.
33. Evelyn Del Ray Is Moving Away by Meg Medina. Equal parts affirming and hopeful, if you need social skills books for kids to help cope with a friend moving, this is the one. Daniela can’t believe Evelyn won’t live across the street anymore. But focusing on cherished memories and keeping in touch helps her manage.

This fun and interesting read is especially great if your 4th grader is just beginning to read chapter books. Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. Truly a timeless favorite! The friendship between Wilbur, a pig, and Charlotte, a spider, comes to life in this classic novel that is more than 50 years old.
